Light, bright, and airy—these are usually the words homeowners use to describe an ideal spaces nowadays, but believe it or not, having a dark and mysterious room used to be the norm. Black, navy, or a rich gray were once the standard color choices for homes as these create an authoritative and powerful vibe. Still second-guessing yourself about painting your walls? Here are a few reasons that might convince you to bring back the magic of deep hues:

1. It can open up dark spaces.

Contrary to popular belief that colors on the end of the spectrum make spaces look cramped, it can actually blur borders of a room and make it look larger than it really is. To break up the area, you can use light-colored accessories to contrast the deep walls.

2. It creates sophisticated drama.

It's undeniable that black (or any other dark color) can create the illusion that a space is classy and timeless. Even if you only used standard furniture and decor pieces, it gives the impression that the room is filled with high-end and designer items.

3. It boosts the feeling of comfort in a room.

When you go dark, you create a vibe that almost exaggerates coziness as cooler colors tend to help you achieve a certain level of relaxation. Unlike white that borders on clinical, black and navy will make you want to curl up in your sheets and never leave.

4. It can conceal anything.

Got a door or an empty wall you want to downplay? Inky hues are great at hiding imperfections from the naked eye. You can even use it to cover up scratches on a treasured piece of furniture that you can't let go of.

5. It makes cleaning a breeze.

Have you ever seen finger smudges on a dark-colored wall? Black, navy, or olive green walls may not repel dirt or watermarks, but they won't show it at first glance.
