If your job requires you to work from home, it can be a little tough to find the perfect corner where you can concentrate. With the comfort of your bed and sofa just an arm's reach away, it can be really hard just to sit down and work on your deadlines.

Since it can be difficult to find a space where you can be productive, you may want to consider creating a small workspace or home office. But before you buy a new desk or table lamp, you need to plan it first. Here are 5 important questions that may just help you create an efficient home office.

What's the nature of my work?

If your job requires reading tons of documents and books, you need to have an adjustable lamp nearby. If you're into drawing and crafts, consider having a spacious table to accommodate your materials. You may also consider adding more lighting.

How much space do I have?

Living in a small space? Consider turning an empty space or room into a work area. You may transform the space under the stairs or a big closet, too! You can work with a built-in desk or foldaway table. Make sure you add the right lighting fixtures, too.

What are my work habits?

Each person has his or her own habits. If you’re the type who loves to sip coffee while working, you may opt to have a side table or just some coasters nearby where you can place your drinks. Meanwhile, if you have many supplies and books, you may also add a small shelf or cabinet.

What kind of atmosphere or vibe inspires me?

It’s advisable to set up your workspace in a corner where you can concentrate and be productive. If you love the outdoors, you may place your desk by the window. This allows you to admire the view as sunlight streams in. However, if you like some peace and quiet, you can set it up in your bedroom—just add a divider or a shelf so you won't be distracted by your comfy bed!

What do I need to store?

Create a filing system so you can keep track of all your documents. You may also add properly labeled containers so you can segregate and organize your supplies like: paper, stapler, pens, and markers, to name a few. If your table has an empty space underneath, try stacking boxes to serve as extra storage space for your things.
