5 Pretty Homes Inspired by New York
Industrial elements and unique details make these spaces extra special
Mention New York City and one would instantly have an image of tall buildings, busy streets, and people in a rush to go home or head to a possible second job. While it’s known for its bustling streets, it can also be considered as a place where thousands hope to achieve their dreams. Aside from being iconic, New York has also served as an inspiration to many—whether they’re working on a book, a clothing line, and even when completing their spaces.
If you’ve been collecting Real Living for years and you love visiting the website, we’re sure that you’ve seen a couple of stunning spaces that feature NYC-inspired elements. Whether you’re on the hunt for design ideas or you simply love the Big Apple, here are homes to brighten up your day:
Some may think that it can be quite difficult to personalize a small space, but the owners of this compact unit thought otherwise. They decided to decorate and complete their own space using pieces that speak industrial—red brick walls, rustic wooden planks, and other must-haves making use of pipes. The result is a one-of-a-kind apartment that would remind you of Manhattan.
One of the best things about this space is the elevated bedroom complete with sliding doors made of salvaged wood. This helped the owner and architect Red Fuertes to maximize the available space and keep the sleeping space private. The cozy living area is perfect for movie nights while metallic details in the kitchen add a punch of quirk. After the renovation, the owner is more than happy with the outcome—a no-fuss, industrial haven that suits his personality.
Aside from taking inspiration from the buildings and facades lining up the streets of New York, you can create a subtle look in your home by channeling the city's hip and cool vibe. In this high-rise haven, interior designer Gelo del Mundo worked with a muted color scheme and a couple of hand-picked mid-century furniture and accessories. We especially loved the hints of blue and earth tones that blend well together.
It's hard not to miss the imposing facade of this home in Magallanes, Makati City. Taking cues from the warehouse apartments found all over New York City and the Brownstone house where he once lived, the owner built a stunning property that stands out. It features a clean and spacious look, fantastic use of bricks, an atrium with a mini garden, and industrial glass windows that let natural light stream into the space.
When it comes to decorating with a theme in mind, you don't always have to depend on obvious elements to make the home special. In this one-bedroom home, interior designer Evangeline Lim rose to the challenge of maximizing a small space while keeping a New York-inspired theme by opting for modular pieces, a refreshing blue and green color scheme, and decorative items that highlight New York. Some of these items include placemats that showcase landmarks, framed photographs, and a beautiful wall art in the bedroom.
