When it comes to decorating the bathroom, many homeowners choose to display framed prints above the water closet or a captivating vignette on the counter featuring a tray filled with scented candles, jars of essentials, and a vase of blooms. If you're in the process of sprucing up this private space, you may want to highlight indoor plants that not only beautify your loo but help keep the air clean and safe, too.

To help you out, here are five plants that thrive in low light and high humidity areas you can consider:

Aloe Vera

You've probably heard about its amazing properties and nutrients that are often added in hair care products. If you're adding a pot in your bathroom, place it on the counter or by the window—but not necessarily under direct sunlight. Choose a white pot or planter so the leaves would stand out.

Suffered a cut or a burn? Slice a leaf open and apply the jelly-like extract on the affected area as instant remedy.

Orchids

Sporting a minimalist or modern bathroom in neutrals? Add a lovely pop of color by placing an orchid by the sink. Choose a hue that suits your taste—work with shades of purple and pink for a charming touch.

Be careful when watering your orchids—make sure the soil is dry in between watering. These plants also need an ample amount of indirect sunlight.

Bamboo

We all want to feel relaxed each time we step into the bathroom. To achieve a spa-like and calming ambiance, homeowners liven up the space with pebbles and smooth stones or even fill it with scented candles. In addition, you can opt for a Bamboo plant to add a Zen-like feel. It can occupy a corner of the room or if you have a bathtub—at the foot of this investment piece.

The good thing about bamboo is it can thrive in most light conditions; and if it grows in water, it's important that the roots are covered and that you change it every two to four weeks.

Cast Iron Plant

Trust the name—this plant is tough as iron! It's perfect for those who want to add plants at home, yet don't have the time to maintain them. Keep them healthy by letting the soil dry in-between watering. Display it by the window or place it on a shelf.

Spider Plant

Its leaves would remind you of lush landscapes and tropical getaways. There are different ways to showcase spider plants in the bathroom—you can add an extra side table by your counter or craft macrame hanging planters to spruce up the available vertical space.

The Spider Plant thrives in medium light and is believed to rid the air of formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. Make sure you water it once or twice a week.
