Those who want to give any area at home a boost can always depend on a set of accessories in lively colors or a fresh coat of paint to get the job done. More often than not, many prefer pastels and neutrals to break the monotony of a space and there are a few who choose boldly by opting for bright shades and tints.

If you want to liven up your space without leaving guests squinting or turning away, you can work with a color that’s similar to butter yellow. It’s light, lovely to look at, and can give your home a colorful upgrade that’s sweet and balanced. For paint options, you may want to check out Davies' SR-472 Sunny Day, SR-433 Calamansi, and BF-50545 Yellow Lark. Boysen’s Permatex can also help you—work with a half tone of Hansa Yellow B-1466 for a light shade you’d love.

*Ed's note: Colors appearing on your screen may vary from the actual colors when produced and mixed. Visit hardware stores and home depots near you to see the actual swatches.

1. Mix-and-match different shades of yellow and pair it earth tones.

For a balanced and streamlined look that will give your home an airy feel, transform your living area by painting the walls in cream or light yellow. Complete the look with seating pieces in neutral tones and earthy shades like taupe, brown, mocha, and even gray.

Keep it from looking too dull by injecting hints of yellow through accessories and soft furnishings. You can have ottomans in a slightly brighter tint and pillow covers in varying shades.

2. Work with wood for a warm country feel.

It's common to see touches of yellow in the kitchen as the color helps open up the space and make it seem brighter and perfect for cooking. Take things to the next level by working with wooden touches—either through wooden beams on the ceiling or hardwood floors. This combo gives your home a country-inspired look and would make your cooking corner homey.

RL Tip: Keep a balanced look by painting your cabinets in light yellow and completing it with black knobs and pulls.

3. Don't be afraid to throw in other lively hues.

Another good thing about light, butter yellow is it allows you to play with other colors that can spruce up your home. Take for example the dining nook above, by painting the walls in a pale shade, the owners were able to bring in chairs in varying hues to complete the setup.

Aside from painting the chairs, you can also add accessories and curtains with hints of red, green, pink, and even orange.

4. Make it seamless!

How many times have you seen colorful walls with wood or white open shelves? Probably more than thrice. Make your space stand out by painting your shelves in the similar hue as your walls. Doing so creates a seamless look and would make your accessories and dinnerware pop.

If you're working with yellow, white pieces would be extra charming and captivating when displayed. You can also go the playful route by putting items in pastel shades on display.

5. Use it for your pièce de résistance.

We've mentioned it before—you don't have to do anything drastic to be able to transform a space. Adding a special piece of furniture or accessory can make a huge difference. In this dining area dominated by cream and white, a light yellow cabinet used as storage for dining essentials keep it from being boring. Maximize it further by placing plants on top as part of the decor.
