Cleaning windows isn't as simple as some people make it out to be. As easy as it is to squeegee dirt off of glass panels, there's one very frustrating thing about this task—water streaks. No need to worry, you don't have to live with foggy windows forever. Find out how you can avoid them with these tips and tricks:

1. Choose a cleaning tool that lifts lint off and helps prevents streaks, too. A good, accessible option are microfiber rags (you can buy them in bulk at any hardware store!) that eliminate any residue other cleaners leave behind.

2. Most of us don't consider the water we use to clean—little did we know that glass doesn't respond very well to hard water straight from the tap. If you want streak-free windows, use distilled water to rinse them down as it doesn't have mineral components that can damage glass.

3. Never use abrasive tools—like sponges, brushes, and mops—on windows and mirrors. Aside from risking streaks on the glass, you might make permanent scratches that you can no longer repair.

4. While it's easier to do outdoor chores on a sunny day, direct sunshine can do more harm than good to your windows. Try washing your windows during overcast mornings so the sun won't dry the cleaning solution before you can remove it.

5.  It's no secret that vinegar is a wonder cleaner. A 50-50 vinegar and water solution works great for cleaning windows and you can simply use it as you would any other cleaner. It's just as effective and it's soap-free so it won't leave any marks at all.
