A lot of homeowners would agree that kitchen improvement projects cost the most when it comes to upgrading the home. This doesn't mean you can't style a remarkable space, though—all you need is to get smart and learn a few savvy design tricks. While you're still saving up for a cooking corner overhaul, here are some ideas you can try:

1. Give your kitchen cabinets a fresh coat of color.

Something as simple as painting your cabinets can transform the entire feel of the room. If you're going for a look with timeless appeal, consider going with neutrals like gray, beige, or white which you can easily match with any decor style.

2. Have fun with chalkboard paint.

Here's a fun idea: use chalkboard paint to turn an ordinary door (and other flat surfaces!) into a spot for writing reminders, making grocery lists, and more. You can also use it as a diversion for the kids to stop doodling on the walls!

RL Tip: Chalkboard paint is available at leading hardware and school supplies stores. You can also find it online

3. Set the table just for kicks.

If your dining area is incorporated with your cooking corner, try styling a simple but stunning tablescape that would wow anyone who walks into the room. This also helps make the area feel more put together without having to spend on new decor pieces.

4. Install hanging shelves.

Tired of seeing an endless line of pots and pans scattered around the kitchen? Opt for open, heavy-duty shelving where you can organize all your cooking essentials. You can choose to go with a custom-made piece or use standard units that are available in most hardware stores.

5. Make a statement with your kitchen backsplash.

This home improvement project is a whole lot cheaper than an all-out retiling job! If you want to make a nice focal point, but on a much smaller scale, consider using a few pieces of patterened tiles just above the range.
