5 Ideas to Steal from Nikki Gil's Modern Tropical House

Find tips and tricks inspired by the three-storey home of the Kapamilya singer, actress, and host

Before Nikki Gil married businessman BJ Albert last November 21, the Kapamilya star lived in this modern tropical house with her Daddy Dino, Mommy Julie, and younger sister Dani. The three-storey property was renovated by architect Larry Mananquil and decorated by Mommy Julie, an interior design student at the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID).

If you would like to create your own modern tropical home, you may want to check out these 5 decorating ideas:

Replace walls with sliding doors

To create an airy feel perfect for a modern tropical haven, you must consider tearing down a few walls. Sliding doors will let the sunlight in and allow you to enjoy the cool morning breeze.

Work with a refreshing color palette

Another idea for a modern tropical sanctuary? You may want to choose a light green shade for your walls! A soothing green hue can almost make you feel like you are enjoying a well-deserved vacation on a beautiful island.

Mix and match wooden pieces

What would a modern tropical sanctuary be without a relaxing outdoor space? Even if you can't have a lovely view of the ocean in your own home, you can still have the furniture and accessories perfect for a beachside cottage. Look for chairs, tables, and other pieces made from wood and woven material.

Invest in a statement piece

While most of us may not be able to afford expensive items for our home, we can still splurge on one special piece every now and then. One unique and one-of-a-kind item can immediately change the feel of your personal space.

For example, this dome chair may cost a little more than your run-of-the-mill seat, but it is something that you can appreciate and cherish for years to come.

Complement wooden pieces with white items

If you have no design experience or know-how, decorating your home can be quite intimidating. To help you spruce up your place, you may want to start by pairing wooden furniture pieces with white soft furnishings like curtains, pillows, and bed sheets.
