"Blue is for boys" and "pink is for girls" are two very old design rules that have already become a thing of the past. Nowadays, it's all about choosing the color that best reflects your personality and your style—everyone is free to bend genres by mixing masculine and feminine elements. Bring the best of both worlds together through your lively walls and take notes from these suggestions:

Yellow

Yellow is a classic choice for unisex spaces as it imparts a cheerful vibe. However, you need to be cautious about which shade of yellow you'd like to go for—something too bright might have you squinting, while going too dull will leave your room looking lifeless. Remember, a pale yellow is always a good place to start.

Beige

Non-hues such as beige, ivory, and soft tans are the perfect canvas for any type of decor while creating a relaxing ambiance for the dweller. To add depth and contrast to the room, consider adding an accent wall in chocolate brown or an intense gray.

RL Tip: This is a great choice even for the kids' bedroom as neutral colors tend to grow up with them, too.

Purple

Purple is a color that stimulates creativity and brain activity, making it a great choice for bedrooms that double as a home office. However, there's a catch: using a saturated shade of purple makes it difficult for your body to switch off at the end of the day. Avoid this by going for a soft lavender or periwinkle.

Taupe

Taupe is the perfect gender-neutral color as it transcends amaranthine, gray, and beige. It also makes for a cozy and inviting environment that is perfect for sleeping in on the weekends.

Red

To create a sultry and romantic mood, a rich red is the way to go. If an all-out crimson sleeping space is a little too much for you, a feature wall above your bed in a deeper shade will do the trick.
