From first-time renters to professional house flippers and design enthusiasts, homeowners are always looking for ways to dress up the home. However, most of the time, many of us think that to be able to transform a space, there is a need to shell out thousands for new fittings and accessories.

While we can always treat ourselves to an expensive designer piece, being creative and working with what we have can pay off in the long run. If you’re in the process of improving the look of your humble abode, here are a few easy updates you can experiment with:

If you want to dip your toes into mixing and matching furniture, you can make it work by sticking to the pieces made from the same material or style. You may also consider sticking to a palette of light colors to keep the look crisp and clean.

To make your space look like it has been styled by a pro, be wary of how certain things should fit in a room. Make sure to hang curtains at the right height (around 6 to 10 inches above the window frame), furniture should be a foot away from each other and rugs should never be big enough to cover the entire floor space.

If you love a specific pattern, you can get away with incorporating it in every part of your home by using it in different colors. Test it out by trying simple prints like polka dots and stripes before going for something more intricate.

A quick way to give your home a facelift is painting the front door. However, you can change it up a little by painting the inside instead—this colorful touch will add life to a plain or non-existent foyer.

Green wonders are always a treat to look at in any space but you can take it to the next level by layering different plants in decorative vases for a lush look. Add in fresh blooms to make the perfect centerpiece for your next get-together!
