Whether you've been renting for a while or it's your first time, you might think there's not much you can do to spruce up your new space. We can't say we're surprised as some landlords can be pretty strict. Don't worry, you can still beautify your beaten up kitchen—after all, design upgrades don't always mean renovating or spending a lot, sometimes all you have to do is redecorate. Here are some ideas you can try:

Display your best dinnerware.

Most rental homes come with open shelving in the kitchen—maximize it by turning it into storage and a way to display kitchenware. Let your favorite pieces double as interesting decor in an otherwise dull space.

Invest in high-quality furniture.

If your landlord won't let you change anything at all, you can conceal the imperfections of your rental kitchen by focusing on beautiful fittings instead. Sleek furniture and eye-catching accessories can help draw the attention away from the state of the room and steer it to the decor.

Add a couple of green wonders.

There’s nothing a few planters can’t fix! Aside from giving your small scullery a refreshing feel, it can make you countertop look extra pretty, too. You may also consider planting herbs so you can use your display to make your dishes extra flavorful.

Hang up patterned curtains.

Neutrals in a rental is a no-go as it doesn't add any character to the room. Breathe life into your space by using the best printed curtains you can find! Hang them over the kitchen sink window for maximum impact.

Add an area rug.

This is the easiest way to hide ugly flooring as there's no point in adding hardwood floors in a home you don't own. Go with a black and white piece for a timeless and versatile look.
