Separate an area using wallpaper

Given the limited space, it would be difficult to add pieces that will help you separate areas at home. In an open plan layout, a patterned wallpaper can anchor either a dining or living area.

If you live in a rented space, consider using fabrics as temporary wallpapers as it will be easier to remove.

Decorate blank spaces with decals

Instead of drawing attention to a blank space, a built-in closet or wall decorated with decals is a great alternative. Decals look neater than other decorative elements as they aren't mounted.

Invest in one primary seating piece

If you have a compact living area, you can purchase one furniture piece instead of trying to fit in the whole gamut of living area staples. Choose a sectional sofa that fits in a small space, and is sturdy enough for the long haul.

Counter dark features with light-colored accents

Dark colors are not forbidden in small spaces. You just have to balance it out with light colors. If you own a wooden wall panel, choose cushions and pillows in soft cream colors.

Choose the right color palette

Make your room feel spacious by selecting a color palette that welcomes an airy space. Try painting your ceiling with a light shade of blue to make your room appear a bit bigger.

You may also experiment with beige if white is too plain for you. Beige can add depth to a small room—especially if you pair it with wooden furniture.
