After a grueling work week, all of us look forward to family time at home—bonding over movies, stories, and food. If you’ve been wanting to change the look of this part of the home to make it more inviting and perfect for quality moments with your loved ones, we’ve rounded up five styling hints to help you. From simply adding a centerpiece to building a new seat, there’s a lot you can do to give it a redo:

1. Work on a unique centerpiece.

We've seen it all—elaborate pieces, stunning vases of flowers, and even a vignette of lovely decor picks. To wow your guests and create an impact, why not line up your favorite herbs? These greens add a refreshing scent while sprucing up a long wooden table. Pair it with a neutral-colored table runner for a cohesive look.

2. Make it rustic with Eucalyptus leaves.

If you have a round or square table, you can still make it extra welcoming with Eucalyptus leaves placed in a glass jar or a clear vase. Set it in a wooden tray or chopping board for an instant rustic appeal. Feeling extra creative? Wrap it around a galvanized wire (alambre)—then use it as wall art.

RL Tip: You can buy Eucalyptus leaves at Dangwa Flower Market, Dimasalang Road, Sampaloc, Manila. Galvanized wires are available at hardware stores.

3. Build a mini pantry next to it.

You may have read it once, twice, or more—an unused space at home has potential and you can turn it into a functional corner. If you have an awkward corner near the dining area, make use of it by having a makeshift pantry where your jars of cereals, sugar, coffee, and more can be found. You can also install wall-mounted shelves to hold decor and extra plates.

RL Tip: Find a similar cabinet at SB Furniture, 3rd Level, Market! Market!, McKinley Parkway, Taguig City.

4. Work on simple DIY projects.

Do you fancy items with an old-word charm? Visit thrift stores or garage sales to look for a candelabra or an old pitcher. Clean these items thoroughly and you also have the option to have these repainted. Once you're satisfied, use the candelabra to display candles and use the pitcher as a receptacle for your fresh blooms. Choose flowers in vibrant colors like purple and pink for a country-inspired feel.

5. Build a window seat.

Is your dining area located near the window? If you're planning to make the most of the available space, you have the option of having a carpenter or a trusted professional build a window seat so you can accommodate more guests. Complete it with comfy cushions and fluffy pillows for a guaranteed unforgettable meal. Feel free to choose the soft furnishings you'll use, but it's best to work with colors that complement the colors of your walls and furniture.
