5 Delightful Breakfast Nooks You'd Love to Stay In

Be inspired to create your own special spot where you can enjoy a filling meal or a well-deserved me time

A few homeowners opt to turn a part of the kitchen into a breakfast nook to serve as an informal dining area where owners and their guests can relish a quick meal or two. While these cozy spots are common in big homes, it's also becoming a trend in small spaces—you'll often see a small round table with two chairs facing each other and that's it!

Some choose to keep the pieces sleek so that they can easily put away these must-haves when extra space is needed. Like we always say, you can still achieve a chic and consistent home even with a limited budget and floor area. Let the photos below guide and inspire you to create a bright and cheerful nook—even if it's just a simple table for two:

Pair country-inspired elements with Scandinavian style

Aside from the natural light coming from the windows, this space works because of the clever combo of wooden touches and furniture with sleek lines. Keep the palette light and neutral to make the area seem airy and spacious.

Create a statement with color

If the breakfast nook is found within the kitchen, you would want to define the area from the rest of the space. Do this by painting the wall by your dining corner—choose an eye-catching hue that will instantly grab the attention of visitors. If painting the wall is not an option, you can choose pillows, chairs, and accessories in vibrant colors.

Go the DIY route

Personalize your home by creating a makeshift dining table using a wood plank. Install the plank by your window and pair it with a couple of bar stools. Since your table doesn't have legs, it keeps the area from looking cramped and gives you enough leg room, too.

RL Tip: If you're not that confident yet with your carpentry skills, it's still best to consult with a veteran.

Upcycle old pieces

Those who have recently decided to create a nook at home need not buy a table and a couple of chairs! Check around the home for pieces that you can repurpose or drop by thrift shops for items that can still be saved and used.

An old wooden table could benefit from a few coats of varnish or paint and the same applies to worn-out chairs that still have sturdy legs. Complete the rustic look with an organic touch by using found items, vintage pieces, and a bit of plants as decor.

Maximize the balcony

Your breakfast nook doesn't necessarily have to be indoors and near the kitchen! Make the most of the available outdoor space in the balcony by turning it into a multipurpose area where you can read, take care of a few plants, and of course—eat. Choose pieces with complementary colors (in this unit, yellow, white, and green blend perfectly) and furniture with slim legs.

RL Tip: This idea will work if your balcony has a roof and safe from harsh weather elements. If this is not the case, you may choose furniture that can withstand heat and rain. You can also purchase pieces that can be easily moved and kept when not in use.
