5 Decorating Ideas We Can Learn from 4 Office Spaces

Strike a balance between function and style with these tips

Inspiration can strike anywhere—sometimes, when you least expect it. It may come during the simplest of moments—while you’re enjoying a cup of coffee in a coffee shop, doing some errands, and even while walking on a familiar street.

Aside from these light-bulb moments, visiting new places and seeing something refreshing can also spark our creativity. The Real Living team recently had a chance to visit a couple of workspaces and we definitely picked up tons of decorating must-dos. If you love pretty and functional nooks too, here are ideas to keep in mind as inspired by the offices of Golden ABC, Heim Interiors, Morfosis Design, and W.Lopez Designs/Space Encounters:

Go for a bold statement on the walls

Golden ABC's office features clean lines, mid-century aesthetics, and sleek pieces that veer away from the usual furniture that you see in offices. The best part about this creative hub? The stunning art on the walls of the fire exit stairwell. Aside from being captivating, these are actually outputs of the employees as part of the After Six project, a special initiative that celebrated the company's anniversary.

For your home: Say bye bye to accent walls and wallpaper for now and say hello to murals that can capture the attention of guests the moment they step into your space. You can get in touch with a professional to create one for you or put your creativity to the test by embarking on a DIY journey. Don't forget to prep your walls before painting!

Golden ABC is the home of local retail fashion brands like Penshoppe, Oxygen, and For Me. To learn more about the company and their office, download a digital copy of Real Living's November 2015 issue here.

Maximize the walls to create an illusion of bigger space

Known for their edgy, modern, and minimalist designs, Morfosis Design was able to reflect their style in their 40sqm office, too. The overall look makes use of every inch of space—from the long worktables, compact pieces, and the runaway winner—the 3D mural designed by Pai.

For your home: How can you best maximize the vertical space at home? Experiment with vertical storage solutions, floor-to-ceiling shelves that draw the eyes upward, or work with a mirror and shelf combo that make small spaces seem wider.

Go for unexpected details and pieces

Homeowners and design enthusiasts who are familiar with Heima's lively pieces and playful hues are in for a surprise when they see photos of their office. The space highlights a Scandinavian influence with hints of pastel shades that go well together. What we love most about the Design Made Happy headquarters is it doesn't feel like you're stepping inside an office at all. Each nook evokes an inviting vibe that will easily remind you of home.

For your home: Take a break from the usual sofas, coffee tables, and seating pieces found in most homes. Experiment with a mismatched look that will surely give your home a personal touch. Choose neutral colors as the base and inject touches of color through accessories and furnishings.

Work with dark shades and chunky pieces

What sets apart the W.Lopez Designs/Space Encounters office is the industrial meets mid-century modern look, complete with sci-fi inspired accessories and statement pieces. The best part about it is the collaboration of the entire team to be able to finish the design of the office—a contest was even held to determine the design of the lobby!

For your home: Achieve an industrial-inspired look by going for bare cement walls that you can easily update. Invest in pendant lamps that can serve as the focal point in your living area or reward yourself with a Chesterfield Sofa that can pull the entire look together.

Add some plants and let your eyes and mind rest

Whether it's an office or a home, a touch of green in the form of indoor plants can easily take the stress away. Just looking at these green wonders can help relieve tired eyes and give your mind a refreshing boost.

For your home: Start an indoor garden by taking care of low-maintenance plants like cacti and succulents. Make the most of these new additions by choosing plants that can help purify the air or those that can help you enjoy a good night's sleep, too.
