All of us work hard to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves. Aside from providing for the family and sending the kids to good schools, we all want a roof over our heads. Building a dream home is a tiring yet fulfilling journey that we’d all love to take on. If you’re in the process of saving up for your own space, you may want to take inspiration from this 150sqm charming country-inspired home owned by a retired couple. Since they are already set with the look that they want, it was easier for interior designer Carlo Martin Mecate to turn it into reality.

Whether you’re in the process of finalizing the style of your space or you’ve always loved the warmth of country homes, here are ideas to keep in mind:

Trade pots and jars for unexpected plant holders

When you look at photos of country homes, all of the spaces evoke a distinct warm and welcoming feel that seem to invite guests to come inside and relax. Aside from the furniture and color palette, the decor selection can also leave a lasting impression.

Take a break from wooden planters, mason jars, and terracotta pots and choose pieces that will add to the vintage vibe of your home. We especially loved how this piece reminiscent of a bike was used to display blooms and greens in one corner of the home. Other alternatives to repurposed pieces include old dinnerware, tea sets, and even wooden pallets.

Invest in country-inspired elements for the bathroom

Who wouldn't love this powder room that screams country-style? It features bricks, wooden planks, and wooden elements that stay true to the theme. Accomplish something similar by slowly adding small decor pieces. Instead of working on a full-blown renovation, plan things first and decorate the area with a repurposed wooden ladder that can hold towels and magazines, and a bar stool that can be used to display a tray of toiletries.

Create a resort-like outdoor area

A few customized pieces may cost you more but it can help you achieve the look that you have in mind. In this lanai, the seating pieces were custom-made by a store along the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. This nook is extra airy and cozy—making it the perfect spot for coffee and snacks.

RL Tip: Achieve a lively outdoor area with hints of country by choosing cushions in pastel hues and throws in vibrant shades.

Inject subtle pops of color

What we love most about this country home is its neutral palette with touches of white and light brown. The choice of colors make it extra cozy and welcoming. To keep the home from being too plain, you can add lively hues every now and then—through small accessories or through your walls. One wall of the living area features the owner's collection of paintings and a couple of pieces from Mav Furniture. The shades of yellow, green, and earth tones complement the neutral hues in the area, too.

Get the right furniture pieces

One of the best things about this home is the streamlined look from the colors and accessories to the decor and furniture. Most of the pieces are from Mav Furniture—keeping the theme consistent and on point. Make sure you visit different stores when sourcing so you can take note of prices and quality. A helpful list of things to bring and a couple of must-dos can help you get the best set of furniture for your space.

If you're leaning toward this style as well, you may want to complete your dining area with a sturdy wooden table that can accommodate your guests. While mismatched chairs look playful, you can also opt for seating pieces that go well with your table. In this dining area, the Windsor-style chairs were bought from one of the stores along Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road.
