Located in San Juan, La Union, Flotsam & Jetsam Artist Beach Hostel has housed surfers, beach lovers, and artists for years. And evidently, they keep on coming back for its hip, laid-back vibe. If you're looking for just the right inspiration to give your space a cool beachy style, you need not look any further:

1. Create a headboard out of wooden window panels.

Paint a nice headboard using wooden window panels as a blank canvas. Choose a subject, either flora or fauna, which echoes the great outdoors. One panel would be enough for a single bed while three panels might be better for a twin or queen-size bed.

2. Use louvre doors for the shower or bathroom.

Ditch the usual doors for something creative and unexpected. The horizontal slats of louvre doors let the air and light in, while keeping the rain, direct sunshine, and noise out. Paint them in cheerful colors like yellow and green to achieve a bright and lively space.

3. Do a two-toned front door.

Add interest to your front door by painting it in two colors! You can work with different shades of the same color for a more cohesive look or you can be bold by choosing a bright shade that can put a smile on your face each time you come home.

4. Opt for gooseneck barn style wall lamps.

Instead of the more fancy-looking glass ones, work with barn style wall lamps as these give your space a chic yet warm and inviting vibe. Its functional design is very much keeping with the current industrial trend but still has a quiet elegance to it.

5. Install a wooden deck in your backyard.

Decks are usually installed to take advantage of a view but even if you only have a lush back garden, that’s good enough! Furnished with all-weather pieces, a deck can easily become an outdoor room without having to worry about the furniture sinking into the ground.
