Nothing immortalizes great design eras better than movies. You can scour design books for inspiration or further push your creativity: Why not get mood ideas from film? Ready? Go ahead and set-up your own Oscar-worthy interiors with these ideas:

1. Be brave with colors.

Oriental colors like red are rich and striking. Use in small doses or go all out—as in the bathroom or bedroom. Consider using big details such as scaled-down Moon Gates on accent walls and of course, other rouge-tinted accessories.

Possible pegs: In The Mood for Love (2000), The Joy Luck Club (1993)

2. Incorporate bits of history into modern spaces.

While it is a cult classic, homes with Oriental themes can look dated. Achieve the right amount of old-world appeal by limiting the theme to certain corners such as statement vignettes or accent walls. Clean-lined furniture, soothing neutral tones and limestone floors are also great for updating vintage spaces.

Possible pegs: Now You See Me 2 (2016), Kill Bill (2003)

3. Create your own relaxing oasis.

A living room can have instant Asian flavor with big, exotic pieces (an Indonesian door or wood carvings) or small accents (throw pillows, tea sets). Use sandy shades of beige, khaki and camel. If you want to take it to the next level, romantic touches like hurricane lamps and fabric hangings create the feel of a tent.

Possible peg: Eat, Pray, Love (2010)

4. Indulge in pure opulence.

Don't second guess mixing patterns, pieces, textures, and colors. This style combines traditional Thai details such as slanted niches, Thai silk and rich colors with a distinctly modern touch: low seats of woven rope in lieu of the typical chairs and Oriental decor pieces.

Possible peg: The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)

5. Get inspired by 60s fashion trends.

If you want a more subtle and toned-down retro look, opt for nostalgic colors such as bubble gum pink and Tiffany blue. Accent it with timeless, mid-century patterns to balance out the look.

Possible pegs: Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Legally Blonde (2001)
