Looking for a fun project to take on before the summer ends? You should think about working on your kid's bedroom! Since the school year hasn't started yet, your child will still have time to help you out and the activity will be an unforgettable bonding experience for the both of you.

If you want to create the bedroom that your little one has always dreamed of, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Think about your child's hobbies and interests

Considering your kid's favorite things is an important step because the goal is to come up with a well-designed space that he or she will love.

For example, my son Coby loves cars and he loves to read books. With this in mind, I want to design his room with a race track theme. I'd have to invest in a display shelf for his cars and books.

Prepare a concept board

Find different pictures of furniture pieces and home accessories that will be used in the bedroom. This will help you get more input from your child, especially for the younger ones who understand more when ideas are discussed with visual aids.

For this bedroom, interior designer Mike Suqui chose furniture, decor, and details perfect for the princess of the home.

Designate areas for every task

A child's bedroom should have areas for sleeping, studying, and playing. Separating the spaces will help teach your child to clean, organize, and stay focused.

Although this bedroom in an Antipolo home is comparatively small, the three essential areas are clearly defined.

Keep safety in mind

This is especially important if you are designing for a younger child. Avoid furniture pieces with sharp edges and any items made from glass. You should also make sure that the cabinets and toy chests have heavy-duty hinges and are easy enough for your kid to open or close.

RL Tip: Always make sure that mirrors and other wall-mounted pieces are properly installed. You might also want to cover the floor with area rugs or rubber matsjust make sure that the edges are firmly placed to prevent your child from stumbling.

Install enough lights

Make sure that you have enough lighting fixtures for the different parts of your kid's bedroom. Properly placed lights will make the area seem brighter and more spacious. More importantly, these will also help reduce eye strain.
