With just the right elements, you can master the art of living in a small room

Living in one small room can help alter our lifestyle. We become more efficient in making the most of the space and we learn to invest our money in pieces that can serve more than one purpose at home.

Aside from adding mirrors and opting for light hues, there's a lot more that we can do to make a small space seem more airy and spacious. Here are five more ideas to help you maximize your studio unit or one-bedroom apartment.

Add glass shelves

Glass shelves can be a great alternative to wooden ones if you don't want to overwhelm a small area. Style your shelf properly by layering different items together.

Consider doing this for your bathroom first. Items that you can put on display include: neatly folded towels, potted plants, and jars of daily essentials.

Segregate zones

Even if you live in just one room, you can still have a space for eating, cooking, lounging and sleeping! All you have to do is create small zones.

For example, the area beside your front door can be the living area, then you can set up your kitchen by the wall near the window. Use curtains and bookshelves to divide spaces and add more privacy to your unit.

Choose light-colored tiles

Tiles in light colors create an illusion of clean floors. It also makes a limited floor space look wider. When buying tiles, choose quality pieces that can stand the test of time. Durability is one of the most important factors that you need to consider. When you do your research, make sure you compare different brands, too. Take note of the prices of each and consult a professional. You may even ask for advice from the store attendant.

Avoid bulky pieces

Opt for furniture with sleek frames so that it won't crowd your space. Before going on a furniture shopping spree, be sure that the furniture piece can fit perfectly in your area. You don't want to pick a huge sofa that will take up half the floor space, right?

Consider elevated areas

A platform bed in a small space can serve as extra seating. You may even purchase bed frames with drawers at the bottom! You can use it to store your shoes, beddings, and magazines!
