5 Budget-Friendly Ways To Update Your Home

You don't need to hire a pro or shop for these upgrades. From changing the bedding to styling shelves, we round up some of the easiest tricks that can help you spiff up your space: 

1. Style and shuffle your shelves.

Similar to rearranging furniture, switching up the appearance of your shelves can take your decor to the next level. You can try organizing your books by color or size, moving decorative objects from your vignette or even adding little planters to give your bookcase life.

2. Freshen up your gallery wall.

Mounted pieces don’t have to be limited to family portraits and travel photographs. Feel free to put up pages from old magazines, lyrics of your favorite songs or meaningful letters you’ve received—you don’t even have to spend for frames to display them, you can just create makeshift ones using Washi tape for a quirky feel.

3. Get new bedding.

If you’re not the type to go all-out on decorating the bedroom, you can give your resting space a personality boost with a fresh set of bedding. Pick out patterned pieces that go with the paint on your walls to trick the eye into thinking you styled the room on purpose.

4. Change the curtains.

While you're at it, make sure you refresh your drapes, too. Believe it or not, these window accessories can do more than block sunlight—they can also set the tone of the room. Go with a sheer set for a bright and airy feel while you can try blackout curtains if you enjoy sleeping late into the afternoon. 

5. Show off your collection.  

Instead of leaving your collectibles with the dust bunnies, free up cabinet space and take them out for everyone to see! Create a clever spot for them around the house—above the kitchen cabinets, over the piano, on an empty console table—and arrange them in a way that would showcase your hard work!
