Bedside tables can come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Some bedsides don’t even have a real table. While the lamp-and-alarm-clock-and-book combo works just fine, there are other ways to add personality to that pretty nook beside your bed. Here they are:

1. Disco Fab

Is your style glam and edgy? Then this bedside setup is for you. Get a mirrored side table and complement it with metallic accessories. Throw in a few black pieces to add drama, and ground your sleeping area using a patterned wallpaper.

2. Modern Filipino

You don’t need to have rattan furniture or wicker baskets beside your bed. Furnish your bedside with a wooden side table and accessorize it with a glass oil lamp (or a clear jar and candle if you don’t have one) and sepia photos in frames. Make a statement using a dramatic capiz lamp. Keep to a color scheme of browns and neutrals for that old-world Pinoy vibe.

3. Quirky Industrial

Forego the usual side table—get a low chest of drawers on casters instead. Add a modern table lamp, like Artemide’s Tolomeo Lamp available at Dexterton, and pair it with matte metal accessories. Throw in a glass photo frame (get similar from Umbra at Dimensione) to complete the look.

4. Playful

Place a chair in lieu of a side table. Put your favorite books along with a sleek table lamp. Accessories don’t have to match—you have free rein on what to put in your setup. You can place a small bowl or saucer as catchall for your earrings or your watch when you take them off at the end of the day. To add storage, place a box under the chair.

5. South Asian Fusion

Mix pieces from different styles, like this Indian table and a slim, modern table. Accessorize your table with baluster lamps and black, spraypainted leaves to add drama. Keep the look sophisticated with black pillows and dark-colored beddings.
