Nowadays, shopping online can be a fun and better option compared to visiting malls and lining up just to pay for your purchases. If you’ve recently decided to buy Christmas gifts from virtual stores, it’s best to take note of a few tips to avoid fraud and fake products.

Online shopping hub Lazada Philippines shared a few important tips that you need to take note of before clicking on any discounts and special offers:

Review buyer guidelines

Most stores have Buyer Protection policies or any similar guidelines. Read and review it thoroughly. A reputable seller offers his or her customers a way to judge the delivered goods based on what was promised on the site. Always take the return policy seriously.

Protect your password at all times

Never give your password to an online shop’s email support or call support personnel. When it comes to crafting passwords, be creative as possible! Don’t just use birthdays, anniversaries, and the like.

Ensure that the site is safe before paying via credit or debit card

If you see a padlock icon in the URL bar, this may mean that the shop uses secure communications to prevent any third party from acquiring personal and bank details.

Understand basic credit card payment process

Take your cue from the site’s security labels such as PCI DSS or Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard certification. It is a global standard for businesses for setting up credit card payment schemes.

Bonus Tip: If you are depositing the money as payment, always take note of the full name of the proprietor and the account details of the store. They also need to show a proof that the items you ordered will be shipped once a deposit has been made.
