4 Unexpected Spots Where You Can Add A Pop Of Color

There's something for everyone here—including minimalists!

When it comes to working with color, you have two options—go all the way or use little splashes to create a big impact. While both ideas can do a lot when transforming a space, we thought we'd focus on the latter as it takes a lot less time and money to cop the look. Check out how you can wake up a dull room with a few strokes of the brush:

1. The back of the shelves

Although bookcases are meant to be functional pieces, that doesn't mean you can't spruce them up and use them as accents in your home. Consider painting the back of your shelves in a vibrant color to make it stand out from the rest of your monochromatic decor.

2. Paint-dipped furniture

This trick is an easy way to breathe life into basic pieces that have seen better days while adding a bright touch to the room. If color-blocked stools are too mainstream for your taste, consider going for a bigger item such as a console table and arrange a vignette on top to give it personality.

3. Window sills

Not into the idea of accent walls and ceilings? Experiment with painting around your window sills instead. It still adds a suprising hue yet still subtle enough to be considered minimalist.

4. Window frames

Liven up a rusting window frame with an energetic color like yellow and let it lend a sunny vibe to the space—even on gloomy days! Don't forget to clean the residue off of the frame before giving it a fresh coat of paint!
