4 Tricks For Throwing The Perfect Party At Home
Here are easy table-setting tips that will wow your guests
If hosting a dinner party calls to mind domestic-diva-levels of fancy china and multiple sets of silverware, don’t fret. A memorable party can be as simple as styling your department-store-bought dinnerware and having your good friends over.
An event called “In Good Taste” held recently at furniture and lifestyle hub Lady Scott Jones showed visitors how to set up the perfect dinner party using pieces you already have at home. Here are a few tips from Karen Santos of the elegant table linen online store KASSA to keep in mind:
1. Add a table liner, or a silence cloth, underneath your tablecloth.
It is basically any material made of felt, old wool blanket, or a foam-backed vinyl cut to fit the table. This addition insulates noise that plates and utensils may create against the table.
2. Set up a simple arrangement at the center of your table.
Keep them low to encourage conversations among guests. You can use baskets and fill them with fruits or flowers. As an alternative, you can also place a tray in the middle and curate items that set the theme of your party. To add pizzazz, pick out a few stems of flowers from your garden, too.
3. Blend it well.
Your tea set may already have missing saucers and some of your plates might have chips and cracks. Don’t worry, according to Karen, it’s okay to mix and match pieces. This is where you can let your creativity flow when you’re setting the table.
4. Leave room for dessert.
In formal dinner occasions, a charger is usually laid. It is merely a decorative plate to serve multiple course meals on. Keep in mind that when it’s time for dessert, the charger is always taken out together with the previous course.
