4 Tips To Make A Black Dining Area Look Chic
Get ideas on how to work around this dark hue
When painting a dining area, black isn’t the top-of-mind choice. In fact, it may never come as one of the options. But black exudes unparalleled drama—it will definitely make your dining area a cut above the rest. Here’s how to work around it:
1. Add happy prints.
Reupholster an old accent chair using fun fabric to keep your black dining area from looking gloomy. Paint the frame of the chair black to tie it in with the wall.
2. Spruce it up with gold accessories.
Add an ornate gold mirror to create an opulent feel, but avoid mirrors with thick, heavily carved frames to keep the look from being overbearing. You can also use a gold sunburst mirror—it will definitely make for a great focal point. If you don’t have a gold-framed mirror, you can hit popular thrift shopping destinations such as Evangelista Street in Makati City, Dapitan Arcade in Quezon City, and secondhand stores in Kamuning, Quezon City. Then, upgrade the frame using gold spraypaint.
3. Accessorize the table with old-world elements.
A bust sculpture adds a classical feel, making your dining area look even more sophisticated. Make it your centerpiece when the dining table is not in use.
4. Hang artworks.
A black wall makes the colors in paintings pop just as well as a white wall does. Hang a few small artworks so they will not compete against the black wall and other elements in your dining area. Paint your wall with flat black paint so you can also make chalkboard art on it.
