Use only what is essential.
“The key to a minimalist home is having simple interiors,” interior designer MJ Tan says. Minimalist design is about quality over quantity. You can create a stylish room using only a couple of quality pieces, without adding too much accessories.
Add an accent piece.
The most common mistake in styling a minimalist home is leaving it too empty and bare. "Add your favorite art or accessory to help make the house feel more livable and to avoid a clinical vibe," shares interior designer Cal Tavera.
RL Tip: Create contrast by placing a simple rug with a subtle color in your living area.
Play with subtle color schemes.
"The color palette is dominated by neutrals. Bold colors are limited or absent to avoid distractions in the space," Cal suggests. Try painting your living area in a neutral green color to create a fresh look. Sage green invites a feeling of friendliness and familiarity in every home. Learn more about neutral colors here.
Clutter can be a distracting element in any home. The good thing about minimalism is that it encourages you to stick to one clean look as well as remove unnecessary furnishings. If you have pieces that you no longer use, consider donating or selling it. These items may still be of use to others. Learn more decluttering tips here.
