In a minimalist home, each furniture piece counts. From the name itself, this modern style focuses on simple and clean interiors with well-curated furniture. “When styling a minimalist home, quality over quantity reigns," shares design consultant Cal Taverra.

If you've always wanted a minimalist style for your space, these handy hints can help you get started.

Add an accent piece

Although the minimalist style features clean interiors, it doesn't mean that you need to leave your living room bare. “Contrary to the belief that this style is aloof and stark, it actually helps create a haven for homeowners with its simplicity and through accent pieces,” shares design consultant Cal Tavera.

To complete the look of your living area, you may add a contemporary piece like a hanging artwork or a simple area rug to add subtle color to the space.

Pick furniture with subtle colors

To match your furniture pieces and overall look, you may also opt for pieces in neutral colors. Consider combinations featuring hues such as ecru, taupe, crème, or even sage green!

Add more storage

When you've finally decided to go minimalist, keep in mind that you will be working with a few quality pieces. Maximize the living area space and invest in storage. Aside from adding bookshelves and wall-mounted shelves, you should also add multipurpose furniture.

Avoid a cluttered coffee table

Don’t forget to keep your coffee table neat and organized! A messy coffee table with tons of books and decor on top can instantly create visual clutter. Utilize the space underneath the table by properly arranging and stacking the books there. Pick only a couple of decor pieces that you will leave on the table. You may also add succulents and mini potted plants.
