Achieve a Nature-Inspired Christmas Table in 4 Easy Steps
Enjoy a refreshing get-together with friends and loved ones this merry season
When it's time to decorate the dining table for Noche Buena or Christmas lunch, what do you often see? We're sure that you've seen jars of sweets, red and white candles, green ribbons, and other classic embellishments that are part of the table setting.
This Christmas, you can opt for something fresh and heartwarming that will remind you of nature and the outdoors. Take inspiration from this tablescape designed by interior stylist Anton Barretto. Together with interior designer Tessa Alindogan, Anton shared a couple of handy hints on how you can dress up the table for the holiday festivities during a get-together at Crate and Barrel, SM Makati. Bring the outdoors in with the help of these must-dos:
Use the colors of nature
If you have your own herbs and succulents at home, you can use these greens as part of your setting. Place them in cute mini planters or into glass containers. To add a warm touch, you can also use bowls and platters made from weathered or natural wood in light or dark finishes.
Don't forget to add classic white elements to create a cottagey or urban modern style.
RL Tip: Add color by pairing these elements with contrasting plates and dinnerware with festive holiday designs.
Use natural linen and pair it with napkin rings in rattan or grapevine. As an option, you can also tie ribbons with sprigs of berries around the rolled napkins.
RL Tip: Dress up your tableware with gold or copper accents or festive drinkware with metallic banded or decorated glasses.
Create a lovely centerpiece
For a Christmas centerpiece, a vintage trough or modern wooden bowl planted with asparagus ferns can serve as a focal point. You can also create a winter-inspired terrarium in a glass vessel lined with moss. Add pine cones, stars, ornaments, and cutout snowflakes that your children worked on.
RL Tip: Complement your centerpiece with vases filled with white tulips, lillies, and roses.
Try something new
If you don’t want the traditional centerpiece, create a “runner” with fresh evergreens and pine cones or live miniature trees wrapped in burlap and held in place with raffia. You can also tuck small cedar branches into a shallow tray and pair it with metallic ornaments.
