Newlyweds build starter homes to mark an important milestone in their lives. From living in bachelor pads and studio units, it's now time to create a home that's meant to be shared with young ones, too!

If you're currently building your new home as a couple, here are four important tips that you may want to consider.

Prioritize safety

The safety of your home should always be based on your needs and the needs of your children. Once you have little kids running around, you must install safety gates at both ends of the stairs, and child-proof electrical sockets.

Your preference in furniture should be leaning towards the safety of your kids, too! Avoid picking tables with sharp edges and breakable accessories that may cause accidents.

Consider having an entertainment room

Your home should provide you and your kids an area for relaxation and fun. Consider turning a spare room into an entertainment room where you can place a television, set up a table with board games, and add comfy bean bags.

Always think of storage

Welcoming new members of the family can only mean more items that you need to keep organized. Always have clever storage solutions in the different areas of the house.

Be flexible

Starter homes should not be built only with you and your spouse in mind! Always consider the possibility of having more family members in the future.

Think of having an extra bedroom that you can use as nursery, kiddie bedroom, or even as a play area! You must be open to changes and possible home improvement projects.
