You can still make an impact even without a foyer

Does your front door directly lead to your living or dining area? You can still welcome guests into your space and create your own "foyer" without doing any major renovations! Interior designer Kathleen Obcemea shares these tips.

Highlight an area to set it apart

No walls or dividers at home? Use paint or wallpaper to highlight a wall. This allows you to visually define a space and establish an entryway.

RL Tip: If you want a temporary fix, you may work with wall decals! It’s easy to install and remove. Click here to learn more about wall decals.

Enclose the area with furniture

Use bulky pieces of furniture to serve as dividers at home. You can place large potted plants in front of the door or even freestanding shelves to usher guests into the living area, kitchen, or dining area.

Use rugs

Area rugs or runners can do the trick of space separation. Use colors that match your home’s overall style and add contrast to the colors of your floors. Before buying any rug, make sure that the material can handle the foot traffic.

Add lighting

“Good lighting enables activity, enhances color and gives a non-existent entryway a sense of warmth and life," Kathleen explains. To spruce things up, try using fixtures like a small chandelier or wall sconces for an instant high-end aesthetic.

RL Tip: You may also opt for desk or floor lamps for a cozy vibe.
