When you move into your new condo unit, chances are the kitchen already has a fixed layout and plain look that's similar to other units. It may be difficult to update the space but you can still add a personal touch by working on a few kitchen updates.

Designers Samantha Hontiveros and Leah Rosal of SMTH Designs share the following ideas to help you give your kitchen a brand new look.

Work on the details

Since condo administrations are very particular with unit renovations, its best to stick to updates that are easy to do. If you can’t replace your kitchen countertop, you may opt to change some of the small details. Consider changing the pulls and knobs of the kitchen drawers and cabinets. To turn them into accents, go for vibrant pieces that can add pops of color to the area.

Pick an interesting color scheme

Kitchens should be painted in warm and inviting colors like orange or yellow to create a vibrant mood that's perfect for enjoying meals and whipping up dishes. Aside from painting your cabinets, you can also add colorful accessories. If your kitchen is dominated by whites or blacks, consider using red kitchen towels and pieces to add character to the space.

Hide your shelves

“If you have open shelves, conceal them to control clutter,” Samantha shares. If your kitchen tools are just placed on top of your shelf, consider having wooden or plastic bins to keep them organized. You may also add pull-out bins inside the cabinets to make organizing easier.

Go for a unified look

Like the other areas at home, the kitchen needs to have an overall theme. Are you going for a clean and minimalist look? Are you inspired by the eclectic vibe? Whatever style or theme you choose, make sure that the fixtures and accessories work well with your interiors.
