Balconies give homeowners a fantastic view of the outdoors. If you live in a condo unit, it can also afford the owners a magnificent view of the city's skyline. For those who want to spruce up the space, some add a mini garden, turn it into a hangout spot, or simply create a cozy nook.

However, a limited space can make it challenging to create a space where you can relax and enjoy. Here are a couple of solutions that you can consider.

  • Acknowledge your balcony's limitations

"It would be better not to put anything on a small or tight balcony," shares interior designer John Vigilia. If the space is too small to accommodate a chair and a table or if your balcony resembles just a ledge, you may opt not to place furniture. It would only make it harder for you to move around.

  • A table and two chairs are often enough

You don't need to add to much furniture and accessories that may just make the space look cluttered. Remember, you want to have a relaxing nook. You may want to turn it into a "drinking area"—a cocktail table and two bar stools are good slim pieces.

  • Turn it into a green corner

John suggests decorating it with plants to make the space cozier and more inviting. "Pops of greens will definitely enliven a balcony. Try a narrow shelf to house potted plants," he says.

  • Be creative and experiment

Explore all the possibilities for your tiny space. How about paving it with boldly patterned machuka tiles? Make sure you check with the building admin if the decor aligns with their association rules.
