4 Home Office Decorating Ideas to Steal from The Devil Wears Prada

Be inspired to work harder in a chic minimalist space

Those working from home would probably agree when we say that it’s not a walk in the park. How can you focus on what needs to be done when you have a comfy bed that’s luring you to go back to sleep? Or a TV that invites you to watch your favorite movie instead?

Turn things around by renovating your home office into a bright and functional corner where you can get things done easily. Take inspiration from fictional editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly’s office. It’s the ideal peg if you want an elegant vibe with a mix of simple and luxurious pieces. Here’s how you can get it done:

Maximize the windows

It's ideal to set up your work area near the window so you can make the most of natural light. A view of the outdoors is also a welcome sight—especially if you need to take a break.

If this is not possible, invest in a quality lighting fixture that you can add to your space. Pick a table lamp or you can also work with a floor lamp. It's important that you have a well-lit working station so you can finish your tasks efficiently.

RL Tip: If you have a windowsill, use the space to display some of your books. You can also create a vignette.

Add a mini pantry

If the space allows, you can also add a bar cart where you can keep a few snacks and refreshments. Just remember to keep this part of the room clean and organize to avoid ants and pests. Choose a bar cart that works well with the theme of your work area. If you're going for a luxurious touch, choose a bronze or gold piece.

Create a gallery wall

One of the fascinating touches in Miranda's office is the wall with frames and mirrors. Create a similar look by displaying framed photographs of friends, family reunions, and even your dream destinations. Experiment with similar frames or you can also choose frames in different colors and sizes.

Pick an investment piece

Since Miranda Priestly works for a fashion magazine, she made sure that her office reflects her taste in fashion. Depending on the vibe that you want to achieve, pick a piece that also speaks of your style. It can be a chair, a table, or a statement piece. If you're going for a touch of glam, you can choose gold or steel accents.
