4 Fun Things to Do with an Extra Closet
Got an extra closet at home? You can be creative with it
Although a shortage in storage space may be an issue in some homes, others have too much of it. So what can you do with an empty closet? Here are a few creative ways you can use up the space.
If you don’t have an extra room in your house to create a home office, don’t worry. All you need is an empty closet. Install shelves and a desk inside the space and you have an office desk equipped with storage. This is great because you can hide a cluttered office desk simply by shutting the closet doors.
This also creates a centralized office space for your entire family where they can do research, print documents, and other activities.

Having a home bar is every homeowner’s dream, especially if you love to entertain. But if you have a small home, having a satellite bar might not be the best use of space. The best alternative is to create a bar out of a spare closet.
Similar to the office space, you can install a counter, shelves, bottle racks, and a mini fridge inside a closet—depending on the space. Then you can have a separate area to store all your liquor or wine bottles, glasses, blender, and shaker. Not to mention, it frees up a lot of cupboard room in your kitchen.

There are many ways to create an extra bedroom in a small home. But if you don’t like the idea of guests sleeping on a sofa bed and prefer having friends sleep on comfortable mattresses, you can install an entire bed inside a closet.
Murphy beds have been around for as long as we can recall and a lot of homes still make use of them today. If you’re expecting to have overnight guests in your home in the future, you might want to consider installing one inside your spare closet. It might cost you a little more but your guests will thank you for the comfortable sleep.

If you can fit a washroom in the space beneath your stairs, you can surely do the same with a closet. This may take a little bit of planning but it can be done. With all the available compact bathroom sinks and toilets in the market, you can create a quaint restroom in your home.
This is a great idea for small townhouses and loft apartments. This way, you don’t have to lead guests into your bedroom each time they need to use the toilet.
RL Tip: Consult with a designer or carpenter for this endeavor. Make sure you discuss electrical and plumbing concerns.
