4 Easy Ways to Update an Asian-Inspired Home
Create a timeless look for your space with these tips
What sets the Asian style apart? Aside from the rich textures and luxe pieces, this style allows owners to mix-and-match colors and decor pieces. However, since the Oriental style involves traditional ancestral portraits and wooden furniture, it can look dated sometimes.
To bring your Asian home into the 21st century, here are four tips to keep in mind:
Work with a neutral base
Keep in mind that too many rich colors can make your space look like a temple. Start with a neutral backdrop of beige, taupe, or gray walls. Pair your walls with large furniture then add your Oriental pieces.
Add a few modern pieces
Consider placing a sleek sofa or dining room set to create a contrast against a Chinese cabinet or screen.

Add pops of unexpected color
Red is the typical choice for Asian homes but don't let this be your only option! Accents of hot pink, electric blue, and other neon hues can help jazz up an Asian space.
Update your pieces
If your pieces aren't ancient antiques, you may paint them in a coat of pure white paint for a clean, sculptural look.
