1. Maximize your shelves. Don’t just throw things inside your bodega without fixing or organizing it. It will all just pile up and look like a big mess. Even before you start putting things in there, have a ready stock of adjustable shelves (fixed or freestanding), plastic containers, and storage boxes. With these, you’ll have an organized system to help you store your stuff safely, and retrieve things more easily.

Here's a simple system of shelving:

- Put the least used or seasonal items on the topmost shelves (Christmas lights and decors, woolen blankets, etc.) nearest to the ceiling.

- Locate the most frequently used items on the shelves at torso level for easy physical and visual access.

- Place the heaviest items on the bottom shelves or on the floor.

- For heavy items that can be stored flat (like folding tables and chairs), stash them in the floor space under your shelves or sandwich them upright in the little gap between your shelving system and the wall.
2. Make use of labels. Make finding things easier by labeling your containers. Bold letters on a plain background are the easiest to distinguish. Print out sheets of pre-cut labels that are used for letter envelopes, or use letter transfers on sticker paper. These are all available in bookstores.

3. Use breathable fabric containers. For those who live in a condo and don't have a bodega or extra room/closet to spare, you may use these breathable fabric containers that you can easily hide under your bed or any large piece of furniture.
