3 Ways To Conceal Stained Carpeted Floors
These tips are handy—until you decide to switch them out for hardwood!
A lot of homeowners avoid carpeted floors at all costs as it can be difficult to clean and tough to maintain. However, if you're staying in a rented condo or apartment where you cannot do any major renovations, chances are you have to work with whatever the previous dweller left. To help you style your way out of ugly flooring, here are three must-dos you can work on:
1. Clean it!
No matter how you feel about your carpeted floors, it's always a good idea to keep it nice and clean. You can try to get the stubborn stains out with the club soda trick, too—start by blotting the area with club soda and a soft cloth. Once the stain is lifted, rinse the spot with warm water while brushing the carpet strands into their natural direction. Leave to dry overnight.
2. Layer with area rugs.
There is nothing wrong with putting area rugs over a carpet. Not only does it hide spots with discoloration and stains, it adds an extra stylish touch, too. Feel free to go over combining two rugs—especially if you can add more in the same colors and patterns. Consider using unique kilims with traditional styles for a balanced look.
3. Divert your eyes upward.
Avoid drawing attention to the floor by doing everything in your power to make your walls the star of your space. Paint your ceiling some great color, add a feature wall that will get everyone talking or if you have an existing accent wall, spruce it up with a collection of stunning black and white photos.
