Have you always wanted to start a mini garden at home but worried that it might be too overwhelming? What if the plants die? What if you can't squeeze in some time to care for them? You are not alone! During her workshop at this year's Real Living Space, Joanne Bohol of gardening pop up store Black Thumb MNL also felt the same. “Gardening was at the bottom of my list,” Joanne shares.

All of these changed in 2012 when she visited a weekend market and  fell in love with the versatility of herbs. They weren't just edible; they are fragrant, too!

If you're still not sure if you can maintain a garden at home, Joanne shares three reasons why you need plants at home:

Plants allow you to take a break

Although you’re used to being online all the time, sometimes you need to take a break from your social media life! You need to relax and reflect when you’re at home, and gardening is the perfect hobby for you to do just that. Once you start repotting your succulents in stylish containers, you will feel more productive.

Plants improve your living space

Do you have an empty wall at home? Hang air plants. Do you have an extra space by the window? Add succulents. The different textures and colors of plants can serve as accents to your space. No need to buy expensive accessories, as your indoor plants can help brighten up your home.

Plants give a positive vibe

“When we see plants, they always give a happy vibe. You can’t connect anything negative with it,” says Joanne. Place a potted plant beside your prized collections like books or cosmetics then style them properly to make your favorite nook livelier.
