3 Helpful Tips For Tackling Flea Markets

Shop like a pro with these ideas!

Each time we visit a flea market, it's always a unique experience. While it's fun to unearth antique gems, bargain hunting can be challenging too—it's hot, crowded, and exchanges are quite fast-paced compared to ordinary retail stores.

Whether it’s your first time to take on a yard sale or you want to be a better shopper, here are some things you can do to make your trip more efficient:

Bring a shopping wagon to keep your hands free.

Instead of struggling to carry multiple bags or going back and forth to your car to leave your purchases, consider investing in a wagon or a foldable utility cart that you can easily pull behind while you roam around big shows. Bonus: it's useful for grocery shopping and picking up laundry, too!

RL Tip: Get your hands on affordable (and adorable!) carts here.

Always pay with cash.

Since flea markets are composed of part-time sellers, they usually don't own credit machines that are used to charge debit cards. Make sure to keep a reasonable amount of cash in your purse to save you the trip of rushing to the nearest ATM.

RL Tip: Bring a variety of bills because vendors might not have enough change to break big amounts as everything is fairly cheap at these exhibits.

Don't dress to impress.

More often than not, rummage fairs are held outdoors so it's best to wear something to help you move easily. Consider wearing a hat to shield you from the sun, comfortable shoes, and a cross-body bag. Aside from comfort, vendors will be less likely to haggle if you're wearing simple (but presentable) clothes.
