We can only imagine the joy that homeowners feel once they've paid majority of the dues and more so, when they finally have in their hands the key to their new home! The next big step would be to complete the space with the right furniture pieces. A small space can be turned into a stylish and cozy haven with the right choices. Let these tips from interior designer Rod Lascano help you:

Open your windows

A small space won't feel so small if you are armed with clever space planning tricks! “If there are windows, maximize it to let the air flow freely and choose window treatments in neutral shades,” Rod suggests. Make the most of the sunlight by keeping your windows open during daytime. This helps you save on electricity, too!

Customize your pieces

“Furniture sizes must be appropriate for the space,” says Rod. To ensure that your furniture fits the available space, it's to have it customized. If you feel that customized pieces are beyond your budget, you can get the best piece by measuring the space where you intend to place a chair, table, or shelf. Bring these measurements to the store so you can double check.

If you are adding shelves to an area, opt for wall-mounted or built-in pieces as these do not take up floor space.

Make use of awkward spaces

Sometimes, the turnover unit may have awkward beams and corners. Conceal these to streamline your space! Covering them with mirrors or wallpaper can turn these awkward areas into visual accents, according to Rod.
