The annual announcement of the Color of the Year has been one of the most anticipated events every year for a couple of reasons. Aside from giving us a peek into what would be on trend in the coming months, the chosen color also helps us plan the look of the home in the New Year.

From bold hues to calming shades, we've seen some surprising choices and instant crowd favorites over the years. As we wait for Pantone's official statement on the winning color for 2017, let's revisit some of the unforgettable colors that dominated many homes, stores, and boutiques:

2012: Tangerine Tango

Bold and lively, the reddish orange color is perfect for those who are decorating the kitchen or the dining area. While some may think it's a bit strong, it can add life to any space through various furniture and accessories like pillows, chairs, and even tiny knickknacks.

2010: Turquoise

Considered by Pantone as an inviting and luminous hue, Turquoise brings a sense of calm to any area at home. It can easily remind you of calming waves and the beach! Those who chose to spruce up the home with this color opted to use it in the bathroom—for a rejuvenating feel—and in the bedroom as well, for a relaxing slumber.

2014: Radiant Orchid

Magical and captivating, Radiant Orchid has enchanted many as it adds sophistication and elegance to any space. It blends well with neutrals and colors like teal and turquoise. A lot of homeowners chose Radiant Orchid for their accent walls and accessories.

2009: Mimosa

Warm, bright, and welcoming, Mimosa can complete a tropical-inspired space in a snap. It makes you feel like it's summer all year and many have opted to use it in the living area and kitchen. According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Mimosa is a color that "sparks imagination and innovation."

2015: Rose Quartz and Serenity

Who would forget the historic announcement last year? For the first time, Pantone announced not one, but two Colors of the Year for 2016. Rose Quartz and Serenity complete a soothing combo—two colors that can make anyone feel at ease in an instant.

Aside from being a perfect pair, Rose Quartz and Serenity also exemplified balance—one is a bit warm, while the other is cooler. When used together, these two create a peaceful, tranquil vibe.
