You Can Get Pinoy Christmas Decor On a Budget At Quiapo

Quiapo is known for two things: Quiapo Church and bargain shopping. Aside from the manghuhula and candle vendors surrounding the church, the streets radiating from Plaza Miranda and beyond teem with various merchandise all year round.

But did you know that Quiapo is one of the best places to get pocket-friendly Christmas décor? And if you head to “Ils de Tuls” (C. Palanca Street, formerly Echague), you’re bound to find Filipino-themed holiday décor in local materials—perfect for a Pinoy Christmas. 

Here are the places to go to first:

This street is literally lit up for the Christmas season, with various gift items and décor stretching all the way to the corner of Rizal Avenue, also known as Avenida Rizal. Hanging Merry Christmas signs are sold for P150, while Santa décor start from P250 to P350.

Aside from the assorted tinsel décor, you’ll find all sorts of Christmas lights here. Ordinary Christmas lights range from P120 to P350, but you may also want to go for a set of stemmed floral lights (12 pieces), sold at P1,500. Christmas trees start at P350, which you can decorate with poinsettia flowers, priced at P10 apiece.

This stall located along C. Palanca Street, otherwise known as “Ils de Tuls,” has the best selection of capiz pieces, along with the capiz string lights that would look pretty on trees, to the classic capiz parol. A capiz parol ranges from P400 to P10,000 depending on the design. They also sell miniature belen (crèche).

Shirlyn-Iya Handicrafts Store


Also located under the tulay, this stall sells holiday decorations such as parol made from native materials such as shells. These are sold for as low as P50 to P650 depending on the size and material used. If you want a more colorful version, get the dyed brush parol, which look quirky-cool.

Yanga Handicraft


The bulk of the merchandise sold at this Ils de Tuls stall is composed of gift packaging materials in various sizes: sinamay bags from P15 to P70 (or P80 for 10 pieces), and traditional woven bayong bags for P10 to P200. Head here if you’re looking for classy woven bags for your Christmas gifts.

Pinoy Sikat Handicrafts


With a stall under the Quiapo bridge and another one in the building across the street, this store carries an extensive collection of carved wooden statues, capiz products, lanterns, bags, hats, abaca items, and more. The large baskets used for grocery and fruit gift sets are priced at P100 to P120.
