Shop of the Week: W/17
Beauty, luxury, and a heart for marginalized communities and the environment come together in this exquisite home store
Nestled inside a compound of former warehouses is W/17, a luxe home store that not only offers an upscale line of furniture, but also exhibits social consciousness. “Both [interior stylist] Andy [Vazquez-Prada] and I believe that Manila is ready for a store like W/17, which provides well-curated, beautiful items from all over the world for the home, but things which adhere to our belief in helping communities and the environment—we call it conscientious luxury,” says store owner Kaye Tinga.
In this store, exceptionally crafted home furnishings and accessories are available to “anyone who appreciates well made things for the home.” Searching for high quality and tasteful items meant the team had to venture out to look for the best and most professional suppliers in the country. Aside from showcasing the best of Filipino design, Andy says he also wanted homeowners to make their living spaces warmer with accessories from the store.
Hence, W/17 collaborates with top designers in the country, like Pepito Albert and Ann Pamintuan, who design items exclusive to the store. “Everything here has to be absolutely beautiful and perfect,” says Andy. Local items are displayed alongside imported ones--like B&B Italia furniture and antiques from China—arranged in tasteful vignettes on the first floor and even made more dramatic by the moody lighting. “We [also] work with many cooperatives, NGOs, and non profit organizations,” says Kaye.
