RL Makeovers: A Hotel-Inspired Feel for a Master Bedroom

A young couple’s personal space is turned into a luxurious suite

For couples that spend a lot of time at work, it is important to have a bedroom that would allow them to rest, relax, and unwind. Although homeowners Rose and Mike wanted this kind of space, the bright yellow walls and piles of clothes, bags, and other belongings in their bedroom only left them more stressed.

Interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino and contractor Jorge Faustino of IDeal Interior Design Services transformed the messy space with loud colors into a relaxing hotel-like space.

Interior designer Hannah explains that hotel rooms are usually defined by warm neutrals like beige or brown with one or two accent shades. In order to have the same feel in the Tius’ bedroom, the brown hues are accented with the red prints on the wallpaper, curtains, and throw pillows. The huge closet with sliding doors was also repainted white as it used to look cumbersome because of its dark brown color.
Hannah explains that hotel rooms do not have direct lights, like fluorescent lights, because these are too harsh and strong. She followed the same principle for the Tius’ bedroom with mood lighting – warm cove lighting concealed in the drop ceiling and pin lights scattered in various corners of the room.
A drop ceiling covered with printed wallpaper separates the work and entertainment area from the sleeping area.
In order to keep everything spic and span, Hannah advises homeowners to assign specific areas for different things. Since Rose and Mike enjoy snacking while watching their favorite movies in their bedroom, Hannah created a mini bar for them. Their toiletries are also corralled into shelves and can be easily accessed from the bathroom. Rose’s beauty essentials are neatly tucked into a recessed drawer with a top that can be lifted to reveal a mirror. Her favorite bags are displayed on a standing bag rack from Mandaue.
Rose now has a lot of storage for her bags, books, shoes and other knickknacks. The cabinets above the Tius’ work-cum-entertainment nook are also interesting because of their charming handles that match the bed’s headboard.
