RL Makeovers: A Colorful Look for a Plain Living Room
Bright shades and fun patterns change a family’s private space
Before the start of the makeover, homeowners Paul and Caroline already had a cozy living room. However, the space needed a little more color and character. The couple wanted a place with a light and airy vibe but they were not able to do it on their own.
Interior designer Dagny Madamba stepped in to help the couple achieve their dream living room. She replaced the existing maroon sofas with a more versatile sofa bed from Mandaue Foam Furniture Store. Dagny also chose a yellow ottoman and a brown rug to define the space.

Dagny suggests a light neutral shade on the walls to make a small space seem bigger. The couple wanted their space to look lighter and welcoming, so Dagny painted the walls off-white to brighten up the space. A blue accent wall was also designed to give the area a pop of color.
Since mirrors can make a space appear bigger than it really is, Dagny mounted a mirror on one side of the accent wall.
For small spaces, Dagny recommends seating pieces that are slim and streamlined. In the Pettigrews’ living room, she chose an armless sofa, stools and floor pillows. Her picks did not only provide enough seating options, it also created more floor area.
To complete the look of the living room, Dagny threw in an easy to maintain rug. She explains that this will highlight the space and make it warm and cozy.
