A Surprise Bedroom Makeover for a Mother's 60th Birthday for P95,000
Design consultant Grace Moslares of Magara Designs transforms an old space into an elegant haven
Mara Gonzales planned to surprise her mother, retired civil engineer Ludy Gonzales, with a bedroom makeover for her 60th birthday. Although the makeover happened a few months after Ludy's special day, she still appreciated the thought, effort, and love that went into the project.
Design consultant Grace Moslares of Magara Designs painted the ceiling and covered it with gray slats. She also changed the colors of the walls and cabinets. To complete the new look of the master bedroom, she brought in curtains, pillows, and other details.

Since the homeowner did not want to remove the old insulator on the ceiling, Grace painted it white. She also attached gray slats to make the surface look more interesting.
RL Tip: You can consider replacing a plain light bulb with an industrial-style pendant lamp from Handyman, too!
Grace spruced up the plain bedroom wall with a painting by her lead painter Jason Bonggat. You can also create a budget-friendly yet captivating piece by using spray paint on a piece of plywood.
She also made this space more inviting by adding new pillows, bed sheets, and side tables.
Another way to immediately transform the bedroom is to repaint the cabinet doors! A cool and polished gray hue could be the perfect choice for your personal space.
How can you separate the sleeping and dressing areas in a small bedroom? According to Grace, you can use sheer drapes! These soft fabrics also add a dramatic and sophisticated touch to the space.
The dressing area wall is further defined with wall-mounted shelves from Handyman. You can also spruce up plain shelves with gold spray paint.
