Whether it’s a corner for studying, crafts, or reading—a bright and organized nook can contribute to the overall look of your home. Just imagine if you have a cluttered desk or a pile of magazines taking over precious floor space—aside from having an instant eyesore, your house might end up looking cramped as well.

Take inspiration from this study area makeover for a seven-year-old boy. By adding a cabinet and pieces that complement each other, a cohesive look was achieved while giving importance to storage. Here are key points to remember when working on a tiny work or study area at home:

1. Define the area and invest in sleek pieces.

Before getting a redo, the drab corner used to have the basics—a chair, a table, and an extra table to hold various belongings. The addition of the Shiraz Area Rug helped define the space and give it depth. To ensure comfort and a clean look, a wooden chair from AllHome was brought in. 2. Personalize your space.

Prevent clutter by limiting the number of items you'll put on display. If you have a favorite wall art, make it the focal point and hang it up for everyone to see. Meanwhile, those who love collecting figurines may want to choose one piece to highlight. With a clean and organized table, you'd be able to add a lamp as well as get more tasks done easily.

3. Prioritize storage.

Having a neat work area can help you focus and even fuel your creativity. Keep books, pens, supplies, and other must-haves in its proper place with bins, catchalls, desk organizers, and shelves. You can install wall-mounted shelves for books and use plastic organizers to compartmentalize your drawers.

Maximize the space under the table by having stackable bins that you can use to store more books, toys, and other essentials. Push the bins to one side and make sure you have enough legroom.

4. Choose the right lighting.

It's vital to have task lighting in the area to avoid strained eyes. A work or desk lamp can get the job done while still keeping your table chic and neat. You may also want to consider having a wall-mounted lamp to save on space.
