Answering the question: "Is a condo the right home for me?"– involves days of research and studying your options. It isn't enough that you find high-rise living cool and "in." If you've recently decided to do the move into your own unit, you need to be ready with sensible design tips! Interior designer Pauline La'o shares three important things that you need to take note of:

Know your needs

If you have a big family, condo living may not be a practical choice (unless you’re willing to invest in a unit that has a sizable floor area with a hefty price tag). “Condos are often ideal for college students, young professionals, and newlyweds who want a taste of independence,” says Pauline.

Accept the limitations of the space

“As opposed to a house and lot, the structure of a condominium unit is more rigid and requires efficient space planning,” adds Pauline. That’s why it’s important to be realistic with your wish list—you can’t expect to have a fabulous walk-in closet in a 30sqm space.

Seek expert advice when fixing up a condo

Pauline also asserts the importance of hiring a pro. “Designers are experts in maximizing your space and understanding the often-encountered issues in condos, like restrictions in property management, construction concerns, etc. You, the client, should know what you want, and the designers will translate those into your space.”
