These Photos Show the Transformation of a Bare Condo Unit Into a Scandi Dream
The before-and-after snapshots will surely inspire you to revamp your space!

A bare condo unit can be likened to a blank canvas that’s waiting to be painted on. An empty space gives you the freedom to style and decorate it according to your needs so you can maximize your home to the fullest.
For this condo unit, the designers of Alaija Interiors were asked to turn it into a modern Scandinavian-inspired space. Aside from incorporating the no-fail wood-and-white theme around the home, they made sure to add sleek pieces of furniture and cozy touches to keep it homey.
Whether you’re planning to invest in your own condo unit or you’re thinking of working on a home makeover project, the before-and-after photos below will give you an idea on what to prioritize.
How to transform a bare condo unit into a Scandinavian-inspired space:
Living and Dining Areas
BEFORE
Prior to the makeover, the owners only had an open space, with no distinction between the two areas.
AFTER
The designers maintained an open layout but made sure to separate the living area from the dining nook. They did this by anchoring the living area with a carpet then adding wooden slats on the wall. While wall accents spruce up the living area, a mirror was chosen for the dining nook to create an illusion of a bigger space.
TIP: You can separate different areas in a small space using area rugs, carpets, and furniture like shelves.
Kitchen
BEFORE
The condo unit came with overhead cabinets and countertops. While the area already looked spacious, it needed a major overhaul to match the theme.
AFTER
The cabinets were retained but the designers switched laminates to a glossy white color to match the modern Scandinavian theme. In addition to the originally installed cabinets, they added extra compartments above it to create more storage
The laminates of the base cabinets were changed to a shade of wood and the design team completed the look with a white reconstituted marble countertop which work well with the revamped cabinets.
Bedroom
BEFORE
Measuring 8sqm, the room needs to have plenty of storage to avoid clutter and a cozy ambiance ideal for sleeping.
AFTER
The designers focused on creating a relaxing ambiance to make sure the owners will get the rest they need. To address the need for storage, they opted to raise the bed, with the platform customized with storage nooks. A full-length mirror and floating shelves add pizzazz to the room as well. Aside from maximizing the light streaming through the windows, the design team also installed lighting fixtures that will give the room a warm glow at night.
Home Office
BEFORE
An extra bedroom holds a ton of possibilities for the owners. It can be used as a second bedroom, as a gym, or as a home office.
AFTER
The owners opted to turn the extra room into a home office with plenty of storage options. To reflect the modern and Scandinavian-aspects of the design, the designers worked with different wallpapers, neutral colors, and wooden touches.
Bathroom
BEFORE
The bathroom used to have standard fixtures and a separate shower area.
AFTER
When it comes to improving the T&B, homeowners prioritize storage and creating a clutter-free look reminiscent of hotels. For the unit’s bathroom, the designers worked on a more modern look by installing sleek bath fixtures and warm lighting. They also added a shower enclosure.
BEFORE
The bathroom lacked storage for toiletries, extra towels, and other essentials.
AFTER
The countertop, toilet, and water closet were also changed to match the wood-and-white theme. To address storage concerns, the mirrors installed above the countertop double as a vanity cabinet.
